Helpful storage tips

  1. Use valuable space inside drawers and larger appliances like stoves and refrigerators, to store small items: clothes, toys, silverware, etc.
  2. Break down large items like bed frames, tables, and large furniture. Keep all parts (screws and smaller items) together by taping them to the item.
  3. Protect furniture legs by wrapping with protective bubble wrap, furniture covers or pads to prevent damage and scratching.
  4. Label boxes on all sides for easy identification.
  5. Boxes with fragile items should be placed on top of heavier, less delicate boxes.
  6. Place frequently accessed items towards the front of your unit. Place the less frequently needed items toward the rear of storage unit.
  7. Seal boxes with packing tape to prevent dust from entering.
  8. Use rugs or moving pads to keep items off the floor of the storage unit.
  9. Create a walkway to frequently accessed items that are deeper within the storage unit to make accessing items easier.
  10. Do not store anything flammable (such as paint or other chemicals) or perishable.
  11. Drain fluids prior to storing snow blowers, lawn mowers, and other power equipment.
  12. Do not store hazardous or combustible materials.
  13. Purchase a secure, high quality lock from your local hardware or home supplies store.
